What exactly is the Urban Beach Week?The Urban Beach Week is the largest Urban Festival in the world that caters toward the Hip Hop Generation from 23 and over. Around 300,000-350,000 participants make the annual trek to South Beach for 4 days full of fun, food, festivities, entertainment, music and more.How Did It All Start?Urban Beach Week started back 7 years ago as a small urban fashion show for a few thousand people interested in something different for Memorial Day Weekend in Miami.In 1999, there was a a smaller crowd but little did people know it was the start of something that was going to be big in the future.A lot of urban clothing companies such as FUBU and other well known brands wanted a place where they could show off their new fashions. To model their clothes, those fashion companies brought in entertainers, actors and models to put a spotlight on their fashion. There were fashion shows every day all day. The response was extremelly positive and very successfull.It was actually called Urban Fashion Week in the beginning.With the warm weather, beautiful scenery, exotic location and large beaches, the event became a new hot spot for other to look towards for vacations and especially Memorial Day Weekend.Soon after, recording artist and record labels and other entertainers begin to generate the idea that instead of using the same places such as New York and California to shoot videos, Miami could be the focal point.For the first time, dozens of music videos begin shooting in Miami and brought notice to even more people. People wanted to live and feel what it was like as if they were in a video.With the success of the very first Memorial Day Weekend word begin to spread to people all over the internet, the Black Beach Week Newsletters and word of mouth that Miami was the place to go for May.

The very next year in 2000 over 250,000 people shocked Miami when people arrived for an all out party.Since then, the event has grown and generated plenty of events such as the Celebrity Basketball Game, reggae festival, vendor area, shopping district, pool parties and has become the ultimate beach party for the Hip Hop culture. Last year was a record setting date as over 350,000 people witnessed the event first hand.This year between 350,000 - 400,000 people will attend.What happens at the event?The actual event occurs on three streets along the popular South Beach Art Deco District. The hotels, clubs, shops,concerts and etc. all take place in one area so there isn't a need to drive anywhere to get to your destination. There are taxis within distance who can take you to any short distance areas.What type of activities happen on Memorial Day Weekend in Miami?There are plenty of things to get into during the event. There are concerts, parties, pool parties, contest, fashion shows celebrity pool parties and etc. Each year is different.

(CEO LE'NALORS) Tell us about yourself ?

(P.E.D) Um, I am a hip hop artist from the S. FL area born raised by strong black women to include my mother, grandmother and three aunts. Grew up being really into sports, and always thought I would end up doing something with sports, but somehow ended up in the military after high school. That was one of the best things to ever happen to me, because I really needed it at that point in my life. The military took me around the country and got me international on a few occasions. Met some interesting people and allowed me to grow up before I actually got into this music thing. And now here I go!

(CEO LE'NALORS) Where are you from and where you reppin ?

(P.E.D.) born in Miami and raised back and forth between Broward and Dade county. Of course I try and rep both because I cant choose a favorite so I just rep the whole South. Fla area. I spent my High School years in Deerfield Beach so that’s where the majority of my legitimate memories are from. But being that most of my fam is still down in Miami I have some memories and experiences there too. But I actually live up in Maryland now. lol

(CEO LE'NALORS) How did you come up with the name P.E.D and What does P.E.D mean ?

(P.E.D.) Haha, Well initially I didn’t have a name as an artist, and a friend of mine was just asking me to write verses and feature on his tracks. At this time I had no plan of trying to do it for myself so I was just having fun with it. Then the time came for him to put these tracks out and he was like "what do I call you?" and I had no idea. So I figured since my father wasn’t and I was raised women, a lot of the male lessons I learned came from music (good or bad) so I considered music like my father and declared myself a descendant music. Therefore the name Ped-agree. But of course regardless of the fact that I spelled it wrong people would always ask "you mean like the dog food?" hahaha…This was about the time Barry Bonds was going through the stuff with steroids and PED’s, so I shortened the name to P.E.D which just means Performance Enhancing Dialect. Which for me reminded me to try and inspire people to do better through my music, and not glorify negativity.

(CEO LE'NALORS) How did you get into music ?

(P.E.D.) It was crazy, I went to the studio with my friend that I mentioned earlier a dude called S.T.A.R.R. to do a verse on one of his tracks. It was the first time for me being in a studio and I was kind of nervous cuz there people there I didn’t know and I had no idea if I could even do this or not. I was not sure if my verse was hot enough and just everything man, but I got in the booth and just did it. When I was done one of the guys engineering that day is called Dub Deuce, he waited til I was about to leave and got my number and hit me up that next day and asked me if I wanted to get into it, cuz he thought I was nice. At this time I never really considered it, and I told him I was just having fun with it. He asked me to come back to the spot and gave me a beat to write to, and I wrote to just some instrumentals I had as well. Went back and laid them down and and just kept doing that until Dub convinced me to release some of the stuff I was writing, and later convinced me to do an album. I joined his label N’House music and we have been going hard ever since. That was like 07 or 08.

(CEO LE'NALORS) Do you feel you have a style in your music that is close to any big artist in the biz right now , who and in what way ?

(P.E.D.) Um…me personally…when I hear myself I don’t think of anyone else. but I have heard from other people that it reminds them of Common, and LL Cool J a lot. Which I take as a compliment because I respect both those guys and still ride to them.

(CEO LE'NALORS) How would you describe your style?

P.E.D.) I just feel my style is a relatable one. People hear my songs and feel like I could be telling their stories for them or reciting their thoughts and shit, ya know?

(CEO LE'NALORS) Where does your creativity come from , What motivates you best ?

(P.E.D.) Honestly it comes from life man, just real situations be it my own or people I know sometimes. Other times its just me using my imagination. Haha Thanks reading rainbow…hahaha. I get motivated when I hear a dope MCEE get his props in the mainstream. I root for those guys so much man. Right now I follow J. Cole hard. The dude is dope and educated and I am happy he was able to breakthrough without playin himself. I like Drake and Wale too, there are a lot of them, but I feel like I have been talking too long already. hahaha

(CEO LE'NALORS) Lets put you on the spot right quick ... Whats your feeling on the state of music right now ?

(P.E.D.) Honestly I think the art is great! There are so many different types of music that are blending with each other right now. I don’t hate on the guys who put out party songs cuz there is a fanbase for them, as well as a fanbase for lyricists. Its cool. I see rappers more and more starting to crossover genres which I think is dope as hell. People like Cee-lo, and Andre 3G, and even Lil Wayne. Jay did it a while back with Linkin Park. I just really love the boldness of artist right now. What I don’t like is the ideas statistics and politics driving the industry. The fact that they forcefeed you the same artist over and over again in order to brainwash you and help their bottom line. Because of that there are a lot of people out there that think hip hop is waka flaka flame, and soldier boy and Oj da juice man. Not saying anything bad about them, but there is just so much more to this genre than that type of music. Feel me?

(CEO LE'NALORS) Now lets get into your tracks .. is there one track that you feel is your favorite and people should checkout and why it's your favorite ?

(P.E.D.) ummm…that’s a tough one..all my tracks come from the heart so its hard to say one track that’s my favorite, but if I had to. I would say Hear what you sayin, because I got to work with a grammy nominated producer named Shawn Campbell on that song and actually became really cool with him. That would be the one that stands out to me because of the experience. But a close second place would be Let Em breathe because when I wrote that I was experiencing some heavy hate for the first time since I started doing music. So that song always reminds me of how quickly people can turn on you and spew venom on you behind your back

(CEO LE'NALORS) Is there anyone that you enjoy working with now ? And is there anyone that you would like to work with thats hot right now in your eyes?

(P.E.D.) Man, I enjoy working with a lot of people. Of course my dude Dub Deuce, My guys S-ROC, Rah-O, and LIFE otherwise known as three da hardway. My guy over in Cali Opoetik, my fam up in NY dope MCee by the name of A-Lex-ander the Great you may know him from the 106 and park performances. Man there are a lot and I don’t mean to leave anybody out, I enjoyed working with everyone I have worked with. Havent had a bad experience yet. As far as people I would like to work with…I have wanted to do a song with Neyo for a while man. I’m an R&B fan so I like the collab between hip hop and R&B. Ever since he made that you make me better with Fabo, I’ve been a fan. As far as hip hop artists go, there are a lot of guys that come to mind, I’ll work with anyone.

(CEO LE'NALORS) How would you define success for you ?

(P.E.D.) for me its simple, if I can reach people and help them realize that hip hop can be dope and intelligent and inspiring then I’ll feel good. For me I am fortunate enough that its not about the money its about the art and the love. The money is cool though, of course I aint complaining, but I feel a responsibility for the youth and that’s who I try to think about when writing lyrics.

(CEO LE'NALORS) Is there any goals you could say you acomplished already ?

(P.E.D.) Just being able to put out an album on my own independently and do the videos for it and everything independently and recently got recognized as one of the top indie artists nationally. That means a lot to me

(CEO LE'NALORS) Is it anything you regret doing and how would you do it any diffrent ?

(P.E.D.) Um, maybe wish I would have started before I did, maybe as a teenager. But at the same time, I wonder if I would have been able to deal with things the way I have been able to now. So I just appreciate my situation and keep moving.

(CEO LE'NALORS) Do you have any other ventures you have going on right now , any websites or any way to let the readers checkout any of your work?

(P.E.D.) Um, I am working on the second album now through N’House music, and at the same time working on an EP with a dope up and coming producer called Golden, as well as writing some songs for some artist that you will probably be hearing soon enough. (P.E.D.) GENUINE….thats all. I am who I am.

(CEO LE'NALORS) If you could share any advice to anyone with goals .. What advice would you give them ?

(P.E.D.) Don’t give any power to the word "NO" when it comes to you accomplishing something. That word is a cancer and kills a weakminded man. I’d say respect everyones opinion, but only value your own.

Every year, more than one million visitors from around the world attend the Calle Ocho Festival, the grand finale of Carnaval Miami. For one exciting day, the Calle Ocho Festival fills 23 blocks in Miami’s Little Havana area with Latin music, street performers and international foods.
The attractions of the Calle Ocho Festival are designed to appeal to young and old alike. KidsZone features four blocks of activities and entertainment geared towards youngsters; including clowns, magicians and sports teams. The Parranda Zone gives the Calle Ocho Festival a carnaval flavor with its street dancers and wandering musicians, while hundreds of food booths invite visitors to sample an astonishing variety of international foods. The musical entertainment is equally dazzling, if not more so. Calle Ocho Festival attracts some of the world’s best-known Hispanic recording artists and groups. Musical styles include salsa, merengue, reggaeton and more.
The Calle Ocho Festival is hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana. It is one of 10 events that comprise the annual Carnaval Miami, held in February and early March. The Calle Ocho Festival takes its name from the Little Havana street where it is held: Calle Ocho (8th Street).
