Le'Nalors - Deerfield Beach News - Update - 2021 Florida Renaissance Festival canceled due to coronavirus pandemic

 

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – The coronavirus pandemic has caused the cancellation of yet another major event in South Florida – the annual Florida Renaissance Festival.

The festival was scheduled to run from Feb. 13 to March 28, 2021 at Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach, but organizers have decided to cancel the festival as COVID-19 cases remain high.

“This decision was one that we felt we needed to make in order to ensure the safety of our staff, our vendors, volunteers, entertainers and our loyal patrons,” event organizers said in a statement released Tuesday. “We are grateful for your continued support and look forward to our 30th Anniversary, in 2022, which will be bigger and better than ever.”

The annual family-friendly event is typically held on weekends only and boasts more than 100 performers who help transport attendees back to the 16th century.

The Le'Nalors Unsung Sunday - Millie Bailey

 

 

Millie Bailey grew up in the Deep South. During World War II she joined the Army. She ended up the Commander of a women’s unit. Now she lives in a Senior Apartment complex in Columbia, Howard County. It’s been a memorable journey for this accomplished Senior Citizen.

Millie explained, “I haven’t had a paying job since 1975, but my young friends say I shouldn’t say I’m retired, just say I work without pay.”

She has volunteered in different capacities during the past few decades. She has worked with children in Howard County Schools. She has packed care packages for soldiers overseas. She has been on advisory boards from police to education

Her dream is for true equality, “I would like for everybody to see what they can do to help somebody else, like when you go to buy groceries buy some extra cans and bring it to the food bank. Yes, live every day thinking what can I do to make it a better world”.

The Le'Nalors Unsung Sunday - Hal Greer

 Why Hal Greer isn't more well known among basketball junkies? He was, after all, one of the NBA's first great guards.

Named to the NBA's 50th Anniversary Team, Greer was widely considered the third best guard during the 1960s decade, trailing only Jerry West and Oscar Robertson.

He was chosen to 10 All-Star Games, being chosen MVP in one (1968). The Huntington, West Virginia native accumulated more than 20,000 points throughout his career.

Greer was also known for his odd free throw technique. It was known throughout the league that the 6'2" shooting guard would actually jump when attempting a foul shot.

He still ranks 29th on the all-time scoring list, so why isn't he more widely accepted as a legend?

The 6-foot-2 guard hit 45.2 percent from the field, a total that exceeded the league average in all but two of his seasons. He also made 80.1 percent of his free-throw jumpers.

Hard-nosed and durable, performing frequently with heavily bandaged thighs, Mr. Greer played 68 or more games in all but his final season. He remains the split franchise's leader in games (1,122) and minutes (39,788).

His death came 14 months after the 76ers unveiled a statue in his honor at their Camden practice facility.

So to you Mr. Greer , my way of showing thanks to your contribution to the game of basketball!

The Le'Nalors Event Update - " Hard Rock Hollywood FL. Grand Opening "

 It looks like a rock ‘n’ roll guitar that Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page would have played. But this one is 450 feet (137 meters) tall and is a light-beam hotel that the Seminole Tribe wants to become South Florida’s latest tourist destination.

The Guitar Hotel had its grand opening Thursday on the tribe’s land in Hollywood, once only a trailer park and some smoke shops. It’s the latest step in the Seminole Hard Rock empire, which includes naming rights on the Miami-area stadium where the 2020 Super Bowl will be played.

“It really is special,” said Mitchell Cypress, vice chairman of the Seminole tribal council. “The Seminoles now are known throughout the world.”
It’s a unique addition to South Florida’s tourist landscape and no hotel is like it in the world. It has more than 600 rooms and at night, beams of light will mimic the strings of the guitar.

Locally, people stop along the roadsides to take photos. It’s visible to travelers on airliners headed into Fort Lauderdale.
The $1.5 billion project also has a refurbished venue for concerts and other events, starting with Maroon 5 on Friday and continuing with artists such as Sting and Billy Joel. It has a giant pool and lagoon, retail shops, restaurants, and of course gambling.

Jim Allen, CEO of Hard Rock International, said the brand already is filled with guitars, so why not a hotel?

“Wouldn’t it be really cool if we could design a hotel shaped like a guitar?” Allen remembers saying. “Before, we were more of a locals facility. Now, we have the ability to market this internationally.”

As for the guitar shape, Allen said it’s meant to be generic and not necessarily the Gibson Les Paul made famous by Page and others. But he added that Hard Rock has relationships with both Gibson and Page, and the hotel and casino features many Led Zeppelin artifacts.

“When we present the Hard Rock brand on a global basis, it literally starts with Jimmy Page saying ‘It was a cool idea then and it’s a cool idea now,'” Allen said.

The City of Deerfield Beach is excited to announce Wings and Wheels this summer at the Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex, 445 SW 2 Street, on Saturday, June 15, 2019, from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM.
This year’s event will once again feature the infamous Wing Cook-Off for the community to come out, taste, judge and vote for the People’s Choice Wing Champion. Wing tasting is free to those in attendance.
The free family-friendly event offers a day of fun. Enjoy the tasty wings, take in a car and bike show, and let the children spend the afternoon cooling off on waterslides!

Back with a Friday tradition , my top 5 of the week ! This week I'm hitting up a sport I love to watch on Sundays ever since I was a kid. Drag Racing .. So lets see my top 5 all time .. check it out


1) John Force 

John Force is the winninest driver in NHRA history with 97 career victories, all in the Funny Car class, where he is a 10-time NHRA champion. Force is one of the most popular drivers in NHRA history, a self-avowed "man of the people," yet one of the most successful sponsor gatherers of the last decade. Force, the first Funny Car driver to eclipse the 320-mph barrier, holds NHRA single-season records for 13 wins, 16 final-round appearances, and won 65 elimination-round wins, all recorded in 1996 when he was voted the national motorsports Driver Of The Year in 1996 in balloting by nationwide motorsports media, the only drag racer to earn honor. 


2) Don Garlits 

Don Garlits is truly a racer who could do it all: Designer, engineer, engine builder, tuner, team manager, driver, and more, "Big Daddy" is one of drag racing's ultimate icons. Winner of three NHRA Top Fuel championships and 35 NHRA national events, the first to reach 170, 180, 200, 240, 250, and 270 mph, Garlits also was the first to perfect today's familiar rear-engined Top Fuel dragster. Garlits recorded perhaps the best run in drag racing history, a 5.637-second, 250.69-mph blast at the 1975 World Finals that stood unchallenged for more than five years. Garlits opened his Museum of Drag Racing in 1984, and his revolutionary Swamp Rat XXX dragster was inducted into the Smithsonian Institution in 1987

3)Kenny Bernstein  

 

Kenny Bernstein is the only driver to win NHRA Winston championships in Top Fuel (1996) and Funny Car (1985-88). Long viewed as the most successful businessman-racer, Bernstein began in 1980 an association with the Budweiser brand of Anheuser-Busch, Inc., which today is the second longest racer-sponsor alliance in motorsports. The first driver break the 300-mph barrier and the first to reach 310 mph, Bernstein has won 52 NHRA national titles (30 in Funny Car and 22 in Top Fuel) in a career marked by his willingness to allow his crew chiefs to innovate and experiment. 

  

4) Don Prudhomme

Don Prudhomme is another drag racing legend of mythical proportions. Like Don Garlits and Shirley Muldowney, "the Snake" is synonymous with the quarter-mile. Prudhomme was virtually unbeatable from 1975 to 1978, winning four consecutive Winston Funny Car championships. Even though he retired from the cockpit at the end of the 1994 season, he still ranks seventh on NHRA's all-time win list with 49 victories (35 in Funny Car and 14 in Top Fuel). From the beginning, he has been a star in the sport and with his marketing with Army and Hot Wheels helped broach the gap between the hot rodders and the general public. Since his retirement, he has createdone of the best teams in the sport with drivers Larry Dixon and Ron Capps. As driver and recently as car owner, he's won races in five different decades in two different classes. 

5) Shirley Muldowney 

 Shirley Muldowney is the only female on the entire Top 5 list, but she didn't earn her way into the top 5 on novelty. One of the fiercest competitors to ever wage war on the quarter-mile, Muldowney is a three-time NHRA Winston Top Fuel champ with 18 national event wins to her credit. Often cited as a guiding inspiration by aspiring female racers, Muldowney cut her teeth in gas dragsters and fuel Funny Cars before becoming the first female Pro-class winner with a Top Fuel victory at the 1976 Springnationals. Crowd-favorite Muldowney, who won the U.S. Nationals in 1982, overcame life-threatening injuries from a high-speed racing crash in 1984 to return to the dragstrip.

Le'Nalors - Deerfield Beach News - Update " Robbery Suspect "

Robbery detectives are releasing a sketch of a man who tried and failed to steal a victim’s car near 1200 S. Federal Highway in Deerfield Beach, injuring her in the process.

At approximately 4:15 p.m. on January 18, deputies responded to reports of a possible carjacking. When deputies arrived, they found Heather Valdez holding a knife in her bloody hand. Valdez was leaving the Target parking lot when she remembered she wanted to grab something out of her trunk. She quickly ran to her trunk, grabbed the item and went back to the driver’s seat. When she tried to close the door, she felt resistance and realized a short, thin male with unkempt short hair was blocking the door. The man told her to get out of the car. The victim began to scream and kick before realizing that he was holding a large knife.

The victim’s response caused the thief to drop the knife. He fled the scene on a BMX-style bike.

The victim received a cut on her hand during the struggle. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue treated her at the scene.

Whats good Fam !! Back with another Friday Best. Even though my Atlanta Falcons season is not going so well. I wanted to make myself smile .. So here are my Top 5 Atlanta Falcons all time !! Remember you may also share your thoughts .. So check it out !



1) Deion Sanders -

The Atlanta Falcons hit the jackpot when they selected Florida State’s Deion Sanders with the fifth overall pick in 1989 draft. Whether he was blanketing top wideouts as an All-Pro cornerback or taking it the house as a return specialist, Neon Deion never ceased to amaze. During his five seasons with the Falcons, Sanders had 24 interceptions, made three Pro Bowls, and earned two First-Team All-Pro selections. In short, the Hall of Famer was “Prime Time.”

2 Michael Vick -

Atlanta selected Michael Vick with the first overall pick in the 2001 draft. Almost immediately, he became one of the most electric players the game had ever seen. In six seasons with the Falcons, the lefty threw for 11,505 (fifth in franchise history), added another 3,859 yards on the ground (sixth in franchise history), and went to three Pro Bowls. Controversy aside, few players have ever possessed the natural athletic ability of Atlanta’s former signal caller.

 

 

3) Jessie Tuggle -

 Jessie Tuggle spent the entirety of his 14-year career with the Atlanta Falcons. It’s safe to say he made the most of it. The linebacker racked up 21 sacks, had six interceptions, and went to the Pro Bowl five times. To this day, he remains the organization’s all-time leader in tackles with 1,640.

 

4) Andre Rison - 

Wide receiver Andre Rison had his most productive years as a member of the Atlanta Falcons. From 1990–94, the man they called “Bad Moon” caught 423 passes, amassed 5,633 receiving yards (fifth in franchise history), averaged 72.2 receiving yards per game, and caught 56 touchdown passes. During this span, Rison also went to four Pro Bowls and earned the only First-Team All-Pro selection of his career.

 

 

5) Matt Ryan -

Atlanta hoped it had a franchise quarterback when the team selected Matt Ryan with the third overall pick in the 2008 draft. After watching the former Boston College product carve up defenses over the past nine years, it’s clear the organization got its wish.

Ryan has a 64.9% career completion percentage, has been to four Pro Bowls and earned one First-Team All-Pro honor, and is the Falcons’ all-time career leader in passing yards (37,701) and touchdown passes (240). A victory in Super Bowl 51 would go a long way toward further cementing his status among the elite. Still, there’s no denying Ryan is already the greatest quarterback to ever put on a Falcons uniform.

After 11 weeks of regular-season action, the high school football playoffs are officially here.
The Florida High School Athletic Association on Sunday released the postseason brackets for all eight classifications, setting the stage for the road to Orlando’s Camping World Stadium, where state champions will be crowned from Dec. 6-8.
Below are the seeding and opening-round matchups for regions involving Miami-Dade and Broward County teams.

Region 3-8A

The matchups: No. 1 Deerfield Beach (9-1) vs. No. 8 Miramar (6-4); No. 2 Atlantic (10-0) vs. No. 7 Western (8-2); No. 3 Palm Beach Central (9-1) vs. No. 6 Wellington (6-4); No. 4 Plantation (9-1) vs. No. 5 Piper (6-4)
Quick thoughts: Barring anything crazy happening in the first two rounds, the region will come down to Deerfield Beach and Atlantic playing for a spot in the state semifinal.

The Big Buck Music Fest will Feature Superstar OT Genasis

The City of Deerfield Beach in partnership with Irie Weekend Management and the Irie Foundation is thrilled to announce that Hip-hop music artist, OT Genasis will also be performing at Deerfield Beach’s newest music festival, The Big Buck, on August 18, 2018.  

OT Genasis is signed to Busta Rhymes' Conglomerate Records. Hip Hop audiences have raved over singles such as "Touchdown (Remix" featuring Busta Rhymes and French Montana, and "CoCo." The former single was an instant success on the song charts, peaking at number 20 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

"To have OT Genasis and Busta Rhymes on a stage in Deerfield Beach is surreal - this will be the biggest thing this City has ever seen," said Vice Mayor, Gloria Battle.

Whats good fam! Back with another Friday Best Top 5. I'm a huge comic book fan so it was a must to run off my Top 5 Villains ! So check it out .

1. Joker - 

The Joker doesn't have any interest in money, power, fame, respect, or even life. The Clown Prince of Crime has one interest: Batman. The two are distorted reflections of one another, which the Joker sees a lot more clearly than Batman. But whereas the Joker has accepted and reveled in madness, Batman refuses, despite the ample evidence - he's a billionaire who dresses up like a bat and beats up thugs half to death, which isn't exactly what most sane people would do in his situation. The Joker's specific goals have varied over the years - to drive various people insane, to murder as many people as possible (including the Jason Todd incarnation of Robin - temporarily, at least), or to indiscriminately cause destruction. And that's what makes the Joker Batman's - and, all of comics, apparently - greatest villain: he's unpredictable and unrelenting, with little or no concern for himself, because this is all a joke to him. None of it really matters. While everyone else worries about the gravity of the horrible situations comic books find themselves in, the Joker's in the corner, laughing.

2. Magneto - 

There are probably the most obvious parallels between real world social issues and comic book stories in X-Men - where mutants are stand-ins for any oppressed group throughout time. All oppressed groups will stand up for themselves after years of discrimination, and usually they will rally around a strong leader who wants to institute some lasting change - in the case of the mutants in X-Men, that person is Magneto, and the lasting change is "murder all non-mutants." Magneto suffered oppression even before his mutanthood, as a Jewish survivor of the Holocaust, so he knew the depths of humanity's potential for outright hatred to anyone viewed as 'different.' And, in practice, his philosophy seems a lot more likely than Xavier's belief that humans and mutants can just get along - humans are probably never going to warm to a species that so wildly outpowers them in every regard, where individual mutants could singlehandedly destroy the entire planet. Over the years, he crossed over into outright villainy in trying to achieve his goals - notably, he's torn out Wolverine's adamantium from his skeleton - but he's always been understandable in a way few villains are. Humans have committed some horrible acts against mutants in the X-Men universe - it's hard not to root for Magneto sometimes.

 

3. Dr. Doom -

Another supergenius on this list of villains, Dr. Victor von Doom, ruler of Latveria, has served as the chief antagonist to the Fantastic Four since almost their very beginning. His primary adversary, though, has always been Reed Richards (aka Stretch-Guy) - the only person in the Marvel universe Doom fears may be more intelligent than himself. His desperate pride has always been his greatest flaw - he needs to be worshipped, feared, and respected by all. Although one would imagine a man covered in metallic armor would inspire more fear and awe than a guy in metallic armor covered in a green slanket.

4. Carnage -

Carnage isn't quite as nuanced, interesting, or sympathetic as many other villains on this list, but he does have something that most don't - pure, unadulterated bloodlust, which can make for some pretty terrifying villainy. Born of the combination of a psychopath serial killer and the offspring of the Venom symbiote (yes, symbiotes have kids, and their family dinners at Thanksgiving are total nightmares), Carnage was a essentially an absolutely destructive force of nature. Carnage was so evil and dangerous, he led to several Spider-Man/Venom team-ups to take down the gooier-looking symbiote.

5. Green Goblin -

The Green Goblin killed Spider-Man's first love, Gwen Stacy. That alone - one of the most unexpected and lasting deaths in comic book history - is probably enough to justify his spot on this list. Making matters worse, it was later revealed he had impregnated Gwen, leading to the birth of twins, prior to his killing her. And - most villainously of all - he had an integral role in the horrible, terrible, no-good Clone Saga of the early '90s, one of the worst stories in comic book history.
