The Le'Nalors Friday Best " Top 5 NHRA Drivers All Time "

Back with a Friday tradition , my top 5 of the week ! This week I'm hitting up a sport I love to watch on Sundays ever since I was a kid. Drag Racing .. So lets see my top 5 all time .. check it out


1) John Force 

John Force is the winninest driver in NHRA history with 97 career victories, all in the Funny Car class, where he is a 10-time NHRA champion. Force is one of the most popular drivers in NHRA history, a self-avowed "man of the people," yet one of the most successful sponsor gatherers of the last decade. Force, the first Funny Car driver to eclipse the 320-mph barrier, holds NHRA single-season records for 13 wins, 16 final-round appearances, and won 65 elimination-round wins, all recorded in 1996 when he was voted the national motorsports Driver Of The Year in 1996 in balloting by nationwide motorsports media, the only drag racer to earn honor. 


2) Don Garlits 

Don Garlits is truly a racer who could do it all: Designer, engineer, engine builder, tuner, team manager, driver, and more, "Big Daddy" is one of drag racing's ultimate icons. Winner of three NHRA Top Fuel championships and 35 NHRA national events, the first to reach 170, 180, 200, 240, 250, and 270 mph, Garlits also was the first to perfect today's familiar rear-engined Top Fuel dragster. Garlits recorded perhaps the best run in drag racing history, a 5.637-second, 250.69-mph blast at the 1975 World Finals that stood unchallenged for more than five years. Garlits opened his Museum of Drag Racing in 1984, and his revolutionary Swamp Rat XXX dragster was inducted into the Smithsonian Institution in 1987

3)Kenny Bernstein  

 

Kenny Bernstein is the only driver to win NHRA Winston championships in Top Fuel (1996) and Funny Car (1985-88). Long viewed as the most successful businessman-racer, Bernstein began in 1980 an association with the Budweiser brand of Anheuser-Busch, Inc., which today is the second longest racer-sponsor alliance in motorsports. The first driver break the 300-mph barrier and the first to reach 310 mph, Bernstein has won 52 NHRA national titles (30 in Funny Car and 22 in Top Fuel) in a career marked by his willingness to allow his crew chiefs to innovate and experiment. 

  

4) Don Prudhomme

Don Prudhomme is another drag racing legend of mythical proportions. Like Don Garlits and Shirley Muldowney, "the Snake" is synonymous with the quarter-mile. Prudhomme was virtually unbeatable from 1975 to 1978, winning four consecutive Winston Funny Car championships. Even though he retired from the cockpit at the end of the 1994 season, he still ranks seventh on NHRA's all-time win list with 49 victories (35 in Funny Car and 14 in Top Fuel). From the beginning, he has been a star in the sport and with his marketing with Army and Hot Wheels helped broach the gap between the hot rodders and the general public. Since his retirement, he has createdone of the best teams in the sport with drivers Larry Dixon and Ron Capps. As driver and recently as car owner, he's won races in five different decades in two different classes. 

5) Shirley Muldowney 

 Shirley Muldowney is the only female on the entire Top 5 list, but she didn't earn her way into the top 5 on novelty. One of the fiercest competitors to ever wage war on the quarter-mile, Muldowney is a three-time NHRA Winston Top Fuel champ with 18 national event wins to her credit. Often cited as a guiding inspiration by aspiring female racers, Muldowney cut her teeth in gas dragsters and fuel Funny Cars before becoming the first female Pro-class winner with a Top Fuel victory at the 1976 Springnationals. Crowd-favorite Muldowney, who won the U.S. Nationals in 1982, overcame life-threatening injuries from a high-speed racing crash in 1984 to return to the dragstrip.

Le'Nalors - Deerfield Beach News - Update " Robbery Suspect "

Robbery detectives are releasing a sketch of a man who tried and failed to steal a victim’s car near 1200 S. Federal Highway in Deerfield Beach, injuring her in the process.

At approximately 4:15 p.m. on January 18, deputies responded to reports of a possible carjacking. When deputies arrived, they found Heather Valdez holding a knife in her bloody hand. Valdez was leaving the Target parking lot when she remembered she wanted to grab something out of her trunk. She quickly ran to her trunk, grabbed the item and went back to the driver’s seat. When she tried to close the door, she felt resistance and realized a short, thin male with unkempt short hair was blocking the door. The man told her to get out of the car. The victim began to scream and kick before realizing that he was holding a large knife.

The victim’s response caused the thief to drop the knife. He fled the scene on a BMX-style bike.

The victim received a cut on her hand during the struggle. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue treated her at the scene.

The Le'Nalors Friday Best " Top 5 Atlanta Falcons "

Whats good Fam !! Back with another Friday Best. Even though my Atlanta Falcons season is not going so well. I wanted to make myself smile .. So here are my Top 5 Atlanta Falcons all time !! Remember you may also share your thoughts .. So check it out !



1) Deion Sanders -

The Atlanta Falcons hit the jackpot when they selected Florida State’s Deion Sanders with the fifth overall pick in 1989 draft. Whether he was blanketing top wideouts as an All-Pro cornerback or taking it the house as a return specialist, Neon Deion never ceased to amaze. During his five seasons with the Falcons, Sanders had 24 interceptions, made three Pro Bowls, and earned two First-Team All-Pro selections. In short, the Hall of Famer was “Prime Time.”

2 Michael Vick -

Atlanta selected Michael Vick with the first overall pick in the 2001 draft. Almost immediately, he became one of the most electric players the game had ever seen. In six seasons with the Falcons, the lefty threw for 11,505 (fifth in franchise history), added another 3,859 yards on the ground (sixth in franchise history), and went to three Pro Bowls. Controversy aside, few players have ever possessed the natural athletic ability of Atlanta’s former signal caller.

 

 

3) Jessie Tuggle -

 Jessie Tuggle spent the entirety of his 14-year career with the Atlanta Falcons. It’s safe to say he made the most of it. The linebacker racked up 21 sacks, had six interceptions, and went to the Pro Bowl five times. To this day, he remains the organization’s all-time leader in tackles with 1,640.

 

4) Andre Rison - 

Wide receiver Andre Rison had his most productive years as a member of the Atlanta Falcons. From 1990–94, the man they called “Bad Moon” caught 423 passes, amassed 5,633 receiving yards (fifth in franchise history), averaged 72.2 receiving yards per game, and caught 56 touchdown passes. During this span, Rison also went to four Pro Bowls and earned the only First-Team All-Pro selection of his career.

 

 

5) Matt Ryan -

Atlanta hoped it had a franchise quarterback when the team selected Matt Ryan with the third overall pick in the 2008 draft. After watching the former Boston College product carve up defenses over the past nine years, it’s clear the organization got its wish.

Ryan has a 64.9% career completion percentage, has been to four Pro Bowls and earned one First-Team All-Pro honor, and is the Falcons’ all-time career leader in passing yards (37,701) and touchdown passes (240). A victory in Super Bowl 51 would go a long way toward further cementing his status among the elite. Still, there’s no denying Ryan is already the greatest quarterback to ever put on a Falcons uniform.

After 11 weeks of regular-season action, the high school football playoffs are officially here.
The Florida High School Athletic Association on Sunday released the postseason brackets for all eight classifications, setting the stage for the road to Orlando’s Camping World Stadium, where state champions will be crowned from Dec. 6-8.
Below are the seeding and opening-round matchups for regions involving Miami-Dade and Broward County teams.

Region 3-8A

The matchups: No. 1 Deerfield Beach (9-1) vs. No. 8 Miramar (6-4); No. 2 Atlantic (10-0) vs. No. 7 Western (8-2); No. 3 Palm Beach Central (9-1) vs. No. 6 Wellington (6-4); No. 4 Plantation (9-1) vs. No. 5 Piper (6-4)
Quick thoughts: Barring anything crazy happening in the first two rounds, the region will come down to Deerfield Beach and Atlantic playing for a spot in the state semifinal.

Region 4-8A

The Le'Nalors Event Update - The Big Buck Music Fest

The Big Buck Music Fest will Feature Superstar OT Genasis

The City of Deerfield Beach in partnership with Irie Weekend Management and the Irie Foundation is thrilled to announce that Hip-hop music artist, OT Genasis will also be performing at Deerfield Beach’s newest music festival, The Big Buck, on August 18, 2018.  

OT Genasis is signed to Busta Rhymes' Conglomerate Records. Hip Hop audiences have raved over singles such as "Touchdown (Remix" featuring Busta Rhymes and French Montana, and "CoCo." The former single was an instant success on the song charts, peaking at number 20 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

"To have OT Genasis and Busta Rhymes on a stage in Deerfield Beach is surreal - this will be the biggest thing this City has ever seen," said Vice Mayor, Gloria Battle.

The Le'Nalors Friday Best " Top 5 Comic Book Villains "

Whats good fam! Back with another Friday Best Top 5. I'm a huge comic book fan so it was a must to run off my Top 5 Villains ! So check it out .

1. Joker - 

The Joker doesn't have any interest in money, power, fame, respect, or even life. The Clown Prince of Crime has one interest: Batman. The two are distorted reflections of one another, which the Joker sees a lot more clearly than Batman. But whereas the Joker has accepted and reveled in madness, Batman refuses, despite the ample evidence - he's a billionaire who dresses up like a bat and beats up thugs half to death, which isn't exactly what most sane people would do in his situation. The Joker's specific goals have varied over the years - to drive various people insane, to murder as many people as possible (including the Jason Todd incarnation of Robin - temporarily, at least), or to indiscriminately cause destruction. And that's what makes the Joker Batman's - and, all of comics, apparently - greatest villain: he's unpredictable and unrelenting, with little or no concern for himself, because this is all a joke to him. None of it really matters. While everyone else worries about the gravity of the horrible situations comic books find themselves in, the Joker's in the corner, laughing.

2. Magneto - 

There are probably the most obvious parallels between real world social issues and comic book stories in X-Men - where mutants are stand-ins for any oppressed group throughout time. All oppressed groups will stand up for themselves after years of discrimination, and usually they will rally around a strong leader who wants to institute some lasting change - in the case of the mutants in X-Men, that person is Magneto, and the lasting change is "murder all non-mutants." Magneto suffered oppression even before his mutanthood, as a Jewish survivor of the Holocaust, so he knew the depths of humanity's potential for outright hatred to anyone viewed as 'different.' And, in practice, his philosophy seems a lot more likely than Xavier's belief that humans and mutants can just get along - humans are probably never going to warm to a species that so wildly outpowers them in every regard, where individual mutants could singlehandedly destroy the entire planet. Over the years, he crossed over into outright villainy in trying to achieve his goals - notably, he's torn out Wolverine's adamantium from his skeleton - but he's always been understandable in a way few villains are. Humans have committed some horrible acts against mutants in the X-Men universe - it's hard not to root for Magneto sometimes.

 

3. Dr. Doom -

Another supergenius on this list of villains, Dr. Victor von Doom, ruler of Latveria, has served as the chief antagonist to the Fantastic Four since almost their very beginning. His primary adversary, though, has always been Reed Richards (aka Stretch-Guy) - the only person in the Marvel universe Doom fears may be more intelligent than himself. His desperate pride has always been his greatest flaw - he needs to be worshipped, feared, and respected by all. Although one would imagine a man covered in metallic armor would inspire more fear and awe than a guy in metallic armor covered in a green slanket.

4. Carnage -

Carnage isn't quite as nuanced, interesting, or sympathetic as many other villains on this list, but he does have something that most don't - pure, unadulterated bloodlust, which can make for some pretty terrifying villainy. Born of the combination of a psychopath serial killer and the offspring of the Venom symbiote (yes, symbiotes have kids, and their family dinners at Thanksgiving are total nightmares), Carnage was a essentially an absolutely destructive force of nature. Carnage was so evil and dangerous, he led to several Spider-Man/Venom team-ups to take down the gooier-looking symbiote.

5. Green Goblin -

The Green Goblin killed Spider-Man's first love, Gwen Stacy. That alone - one of the most unexpected and lasting deaths in comic book history - is probably enough to justify his spot on this list. Making matters worse, it was later revealed he had impregnated Gwen, leading to the birth of twins, prior to his killing her. And - most villainously of all - he had an integral role in the horrible, terrible, no-good Clone Saga of the early '90s, one of the worst stories in comic book history.

Le'Nalors - Memorial Day 2018 Events " Best of the Best Memorial Day Concert "

On its 12th year, the largest reggae/caribbean music festival in North America returns to the striking landscapes of Bayfront Park and the Miami Beach skyline on Sunday May 27, 2018 with every intention of making history again!

Best of the Best 2018 will be bringing out some of Caribbean music's finest, including Mavado, Aidonia, Capleton, Masicka, Roman Virgo, Shenseea, Ding Dong... and many many more.
No outside food, beverages, or alcohol will be allowed. However, it is suggested that attendees bring blankets or folding chairs to sit on. Be advised, there is no re-entry into the concert so be sure that you don't leave anything in your vehicle that you may need during the concert.

The National Salute to America’s Heroes returns to South Beach for a two-day spectacular event that will showcase the most impressive military fighter jets, bombers and equipment from all branches of the United States Military, as well as police, firefighters and other first responder agencies. The show also includes a Music Explosion with performances by Shaggy, Kent Jones, Max and DJ Irie from 6-9 p.m. on May 26.

I'm Kevin the Owner of Le'Nalors Rims Inc. & Automotive. Also the owner of this very site . I lived in Deerfield Beach Fl. nearly my whole life. I made a lot of great friends from Deerfield Park Elementry, Deerfield Middle , and Last but not least Deerfield Beach High School.Honestly I have been truly grateful and proud to say that. I always felt blessed to be Surrounded by the most loving and trustworthy Famly as well from my giving fianc'ee! My Support system has always been there for me through thick and thin , ups and downs . My positive influences is what helped me become a better human being and a good trusting friend to all I known .

Now in my upper 30's , I always felt this is the real start of your life. Example , your not  to young to make the same dumb mistakes, and your not to old to become whatever you always wanted to be. There are some negative things I  have learned as well. Your loved one's age as well , you stress more about their well being more than your own. The super human factors of your parents change in your mind from them being invincible to now seeing their mortal just like you. Heaven forbid in time we even start to lose some of them. But they say that is part of life and growing up.So while we're here love them , tell them how much you care and appreciate your love one's .

I decided to take part and do this article on myself so my many friends or any one else with a story to tell will take part and feel free to share with us! For me this was just part one . One day I may even have a very awesome story to tell. Until then , Like the Drake video God's Plan " IT'S A GOOD LIFE " , " IT'S A GOOD LIFE " ! For me not from money , power , and respect, but from what I already have which is my MIND,BODY, and most of all My SOUL!

With the start of Baseball season upon us !!! My Top Five this week is in honor of the greatest Negro League Players of all time !! My top list is always open to a friendly debate.So if you have a top 5 feel free to drop yours in the comment section!

1) Satchel Paige

The rubber-armed Paige, who Joe DiMaggio called “the best and fastest pitcher I’ve ever faced,” is estimated to have won as many as 600 games during his 30-year Negro League and barnstorming career. During that career he played for many teams, including the Chattanooga Black Lookouts, Birmingham Black Barons, Cleveland Cubs, Pittsburgh Crawfords, Kansas City Monarchs, New York Black Yankees, Satchel Paige’s All-Stars, Philadelphia Stars, Cleveland Indians, St. Louis Browns, and Kansas City A’s.
One can only imagine the big-league records Satch would have set had only the owners let this baseball marvel play in his prime. Ted Williams and Robin Roberts, two Hall of Famers, said that Gibson and Paige were as talented as any players they had ever seen.

2) Josh Gibson

In 1933, he hit .467 with 55 home runs in 137 games against all levels of competition. His lifetime batting average is said to be higher than .350, with other sources putting it as high as .384, the best in Negro league history.
Gibson’s Hall of Fame plaque states he hit “almost 800 home runs in league and independent baseball during his 17-year career.” (This figure includes vs. semi-pro competition and in exhibition games.) His lifetime batting average, according to the Hall’s official data, was .359. It was reported that he won nine home run titles and four batting championships playing for the Crawfords and the Grays. It is also believed that Gibson hit a home run in a Negro league game at Yankee Stadium that struck two feet from the top of the wall circling the center field bleachers, about 580 feet (180 m) from home plate. Although it has never been conclusively proven, Chicago American Giants infielder Jack Marshall said Gibson slugged one over the third deck next to the left field bullpen in 1934 for the only fair ball hit out of Yankee Stadium. Washington Senators owner Clark Griffith once said that Gibson hit more home runs into Griffith Stadium’s distant left field bleachers than the entire American League.

3) Oscar Charleston

An intense, focused, and intelligent man, Charleston was among the most renowned players of his time, a tremendous power and contact hitter and one of the finest defensive center fielders of all-time. His career batting average was .348, and he regularly finished among league leaders in both home runs and stolen bases. He was also known for his combative nature, getting into many brawls, including at least one memorable fight with an array of Cuban soldiers.
In 1932, Charleston became player-manager of the Pittsburgh Crawfords and presided over what some baseball historians consider the best Negro league team ever. His roster included Hall of Famers Josh Gibson,Satchel Paige, and Judy Johnson. The team went 99-36, and Charleston himself batted .363.
A powerful hitter, Oscar won at least four batting titles and several home-run crowns. He is among the top five Negro Leaguers in batting average (.339) and home runs, as well as the all-time leader in stolen bases. (Negro League records are sketchy and incomplete.) Writer/analyst Bill James named Charleston the fourth-greatest player of all time.

4) Walter “Buck” Leonard

He began his Negro league career in 1933 with the Brooklyn Royal Giants, then moved to the legendary Homestead Grays in 1934, the team he played for until his retirement in 1950. The Grays of the late 1930s through the mid-1940s are considered one of the greatest teams of any race ever assembled. The team won nine league pennants in a row during that time.
Leonard batted fourth in their lineup behind Josh Gibson. He led the Negro leagues in batting average in 1948 with a mark of .395, and usually either led the league in home runs or finished second in homers to teammate Gibson. Since Gibson was known as the “Black Babe Ruth” and Leonard was a first baseman, Buck Leonard was inevitably called the “Black Lou Gehrig.” Together, the pair was colloquially known as the “Thunder Twins” or “Dynamite Twins”. In fact, Negro league star Monte Irvin said that if Leonard had been allowed in the major leagues, baseball fans “might have called Lou Gehrig the white Buck Leonard. He was that good. The Monarchs disbanded after 1950

5) Monte Irvin

Proved how great he was in the major leagues with the Giants, but before that dominated the Negro leagues for over a decade. “Mr. Murder” hit for both average and power, and provided a potent bat in a Newark Eagles lineup, starring on the 1942 club that also included legends Willie Wells, Biz Mackey, and Mule Suttles. He was considered one of the Negro League’s greatest hitters and won the 1946 batting title. Over his career, he played for the Newark Eagles, New York Giants, and the Chicago Cubs.

On Sunday, January 14th from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM the 2nd Annual Choir Competition will be held. Each entered choir will have 15 minutes to perform their best songs. At the end, the judges will decide who gets to go home with the traveling trophy along with $500! (Limited to 10 entries, first come, first serve basis. Choir groups must be affiliated with a church.) The winning choir must be available to sing “Life Every Voice and Sing” at the ceremony on Monday, January 15^th at 12:00 PM.

Parking will be available at the Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex (formerly known as Westside Park-445 SW 2^nd Street) for the carnival. Shuttle service will be provided for walkers in the parade from the Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex (445 SW 2^nd St.) to the Cove Shopping Center (1580 SE 3^rd Ct.) starting at 8:00 AM. The last shuttle for participants will be at 8:30 AM. If you arrive after 8:30 AM you will need to drive to the Cove Shopping Center as there will no longer be transportation provided prior to the parade start. Shuttle service will be provided back to the Cove Shopping Center (1580 SE 3^rd Ct.) from the Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex (445 SW 2^nd St.) following the conclusion of the parade until 2:00 PM, or when the ceremony concludes.

#1 Muhammad Ali-56-5-0-(37) -
In terms of social and historical impact no one even comes close. However, what really puts Ali number one all time is his quality of opposition. Many people consider the 1970’s the best decade in the division’s history and Ali proved beyond a doubt that he was the finest fighter of that or perhaps any generation. Ali holds victories over Joe Frazier (twice), Sonny Liston (twice), Floyd Patterson, Ken Norton (twice), as well as a knockout victory over a prime George Foreman. In total Ali made 21 title defenses during his three reigns as heavyweight champion. Over the course of his prolific career Ali went from being one of the most hated public figures in American to one of the most beloved, speaking volumes about his accomplishments both in and out of the ring.

#2 Joe Louis-66-3-0-(52)-1 no contest -
 America’s first national black sporting hero revolutionized what it meant to be a heavyweight champion. Louis brought a level of talent, skill, and size that made him an unbeatable force during his record breaking twelve years as heavyweight champion. His mind boggling 25 title defenses is a record that will probably never be broken. In one of the major sporting events of the 20th century Louis avenged an earlier defeat against the German Max Schmeling in 1938. With the world on the cusp of war, Louis is given credit for boosting the moral of the nation, as well as helping to debunk Hitler’s myth of Arian supremacy. What prevents Louis from securing the number one spot was his sometimes mediocre opposition, which was unflatteringly dubbed the “bum of the month club”. Nevertheless, the social barriers Louis broke for African American fighters cannot be ignored.

#3 Joe Frazier-32-4-1-(27) -
 The very definition of a true professional prizefighter. Frazier had a stellar amateur career, which culminated by capturing Olympic gold in 1964. “Smokin’ Joe” gradually emerged as a top contender in the 1960’s by beating a plethora of very good heavyweights, including George Chuvalo and Oscar Bonavena. When Muhammad Ali was stripped of his championship and sent to prison for refusing the draft, Frazier won the vacant NYSAC title from Buster Mathis (KO-11) and the WBC & WBA titles from Jimmy Ellis (KO-5). In arguably the biggest fight in boxing history Frazier won a sensational battle against Ali, knocking him down in the 15th round. Frazier’s only career losses came against George Foreman (twice) and Ali (twice).

#4 Larry Holmes-69-6-0-(44) -
Easily the most underrated heavyweight champion of all-time. Holmes was the complete package, as he had fantastic boxing skills but also proved many times that he had the heart and toughness of a champion. After winning the title from Ken Norton in an all-time great slugfest, he would go on to make 20 title defenses, second only to Louis’ twenty-five. Holmes had one of the greatest jabs in boxing history and used it to go undefeated in the first 48 fights of his career, including victories over Gerry Cooney, Tim Witherspoon, Mike Weaver, and Ernie Shavers. He spent most of his career lost in the long shadow cast by Muhammad Ali, but Holmes’ accomplishments and consistency makes his resume one of the best in division history.

#5 Mike Tyson 50-6-0-2-(44) -

Let's not forget all the success Mike had during his time in between the ropes. Tyson had a career record of 50-6-0-2, and his career spanned over 20 years from 1985-2005. He would have accumulated more fights if it wasn't for his prison sentence in the early 1990's. Mike Tyson won 44 of his 50 fights by way of knock out.

Mike Tyson knocked out Trevor Berbick in the second round in 1986 to become the youngest heavyweight champion in the history of professional boxing. Mike Tyson dominated his way through heavyweight ranks with his tremendous punching power. His ability to overpower his opponent was like none we have ever seen in the sport.

Mike Tyson was undefeated, posting a 37-0 record before he lost his first fight and his title to Buster Douglas in the 1990 fight in Japan.

Le'Nalors - Deerfield Beach News - Update " Denard “Shoelace” Robinson gives back to his community "

Two hundred and thirty kids from age 5 to 18 came out on the field at Deerfield Beach High School (DBHS) last Saturday, July 9, to be a part of the Lace Up Football Camp, put together by the Shoelace Foundation.

The kids all ran drills, did ladders and other circuit training in their T-shirts provided by the organization. They split up into age categories and ran races to see who was the fastest. They battled the hot sun, but they were all smiles.

This was the second year for the event created by Jacksonville Jaguars football player Denard “Shoelace” Robinson, a running back and wide receiver. Robinson knows this school. He knows this community. He grew up here, and started school at Park Ridge Elementary and eventually graduated from Deerfield High. For him, this event is all about giving back.

“I love my community,” he said. “I want to be the change I want to see.”

Shoelace Foundation board member Jerry Jasmin added, “Denard always wants to give back. He is in a unique situation in that he plays in the same state he is from. He wants to empower underprivileged children to become better citizens.”

Besides local kids, children and teens from other cities, like Lauderhill came out to participate. Coach T. Anderson coaches youth football in the 7U category there. Two of his grandchildren, age 7 and 8, participated in the camp and he sat with other parents on the sidelines beneath tents in the shade.

“I love it,” he said of the event. This is a great thing for our youth … to have a positive role model. We need more of this all the time.”

DBHS student 16-year-old Joell hopes to play football in college. He is a linebacker right now for the school. He loved doing the drills.

“[My favorite part is] we had to run inside the box [ladder] and outside of it and do burpies,” he said as he described some of the drills.

Nine-year-old Mickeelah, who was one of the few girls in the group, came out because Denard is her cousin. She normally gets to see him only on holidays so this day was special.

“Racing is my favorite part. I did some drills. Some of them were hard for me,” she said, adding, “[For lunch], we had a hot dog, Pringles, a granola [bar] and some juice [among other items available].”

Volunteer Bruny Colquhour felt the event went well.

“Everything is very organized. The kids look forward to it every year. Shoelace is doing great for the community. It inspires the kids to dream big,” she said.

Besides Denard, there were other well-known players who attended either the event this day or the 1st annual basketball event that happened the night before. They included Robinson’s teammates from the Jaguars, including wide receivers Tony Washington and Rashad Lawrence; J.T. Thomas from the New York Giants; Rashard Robinson from the San Francisco 49ers, Adrian Witty from the Cincinnati Bearcats and rapper Ace Hood.

Denard not only helped kids to improve their skills, but taught them the importance of education. 

He explained to one student who did not like to read, “In order for you to play football, you have to have your education first. You have to use school to get you there. If I could do all this work in football, I can do it in school.”

Besides doing football drills and having lunch, students got to enjoy themselves jumping in bounce houses.

He didn’t let students leave without delivering one last powerful message, saying, “Always have a role model. My role model was my dad. I want to be that person [for you all]. If I see somebody I look up to, I always want to be better than them. You all can do whatever you want. You can be president; you can be an astronaut; you can be a football player … It is here for the taking. Never do it for the haters. Every time I step on the field, I do it for love. I do it for people who support me. Do it for the people who support you.”

Le'Nalors News Update - Deerfield Packer Rattlers Tradition " Over " ????

 — The clock has run out on a 40-year-old private city youth football league that has been the training ground for several future National Football League players.

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Denard Robinson played in the Deerfield Beach Packer Rattlers league and New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul took part in the peewee football league.

But now the city will switch to a football/cheerleading program run by former NFL players – also former Packer Rattlers – who say they will offer a more complete program.

"I understand what it's like to be a kid in this community," said Jerome McDougle, who played for the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants, and whose McDougle Family Foundation is taking over the city's football program.

He'll be working with his brother, Stockar McDougle, who has played with the Detroit Lions, the Jacksonville Jaguars and and the Miami Dolphins.


"My brother and I had the opportunity to get to the highest level in our craft and a lot of people look up to us," Jerome McDougle said.

City leaders say they expect the McDougle Foundation will take in the 300-plus players and cheerleaders who have participated with the Packer Rattlers and the city-run football league, the Deerfield Beach Raiders. Everyone will benefit, they say, because the new league will have professional experience in critical issues such head injuries and leadership-building.

City Manager Burgess Hanson said it isn't so much what the Packer Rattlers lack, but what the McDougle Foundation can offer.

"On the staff, we have Ryan Reckley, graduate and football standout from Boston College and we also have the McDougle brothers, Desmond Cook, a Stanford University standout" from Sunrise, Hanson said. "That's the type of team you want to put in on something like this."

Former city commissioner Ben Preston said he's sad to see the Packer Rattlers go.

"They have a very strong history of trying to promote good values with the kids in the community," Preston said. "A long time ago, people conceived of an idea, had the fortitude to stick to it and see it become a reality. It is something that is really uplifting."

Diandra Tigner, another resident, said she couldn't understand why the city was starting from scratch.

"Everything they are trying to do, we're already doing it," she said. "Some of these guys, they are father figures. If you take this program away, who are they going to look up to?"

Commissioner Gloria Battle, who spoke in favor of the change, said there's little doubt the Packer Rattlers have a long and storied history in the city.

"Packer Rattlers was an outstanding organization during its infancy," she said. "But it has devolved into something that parents don't want to send their kids to."

She said she routinely receives complaints from parents about how their young children are getting suited up, but don't get a chance to play or cheer.

"My concern is for the children," she said, recalling one parent of a pre-teen being told she was "too chunky" to cheer. "My heart bleeds every time."

Packer Rattler officials could not be reached for comment on this issue, but at the meeting they said the city's decision means the league will lose priority on city fields. And that will almost certainly mean game over for a Deerfield institution.

"We put hard work into this organization and if you allow this, it's going to go away," said Precious Johnson, who said she's been on the Packer Rattlers board of directors for four years. "

National Signing Day is in the books. On Wednesday, Feb. 3 the top prospects from Deerfield Beach High School signed their letters of intent to play college football at their respective universities. Congratulations to the class of 2016!
